I have always loved stencils. I use to stencil rooms back in the day when everyone was stenciling walls. I've done it on rugs, doors, signs, fabric, purses, well I guess you get the idea.
I was so happy to provide our VerDay Paints to Stencil Girls when they contacted me for their blog hop. I can't wait to see what everyone creates and love getting new inspiration from other artists. The idea is to use our VerDay Paints on whatever you choose and of course, incorporate stencils from Stencil Girls. I've been in their "stencil club" for almost a year and love getting new stencils every month.
For my project I thought I would do leather coasters. Yes, you can paint Leather! To see how to create with our VerDay Paints you can check out the video here. This video we use our VerDay Cloth but our paints go on the same way with leather.
First I take the plain leather coasters. We do sell these and they are $2.50 ea or $10/4. I like to emboss, paint, stencil or just doodle on them with our embossing tools.
I used one color on each coaster and then sprayed the VerDay Patina on all of them. I got a little of the iron paint on the top right one which is copper then iron, the second row is bronze and brass.
I used these stencils on all the coasters.
Taking a sponge and a little black acrylic paint I simply held down the stencil on top of the leather and then patted the paint on top. Use more of a dry "brush" pat on the stencil as you don't really need a lot of paint.
Carefully lift off the stencil and you've got a really cool design. Each stencil will showcase the pattern differently. As the lower right brass coaster shows more of the VerDay paint than the others. But, I think the Iron (upper right) looks really cool and graphic.
Of course I couldn't just stop at coasters, so I got out some scraps of my VerDay Cloth (shown in the video above) and stenciled on each of these two pieces.
This one shows the giant floral stencil. I love the bits of color coming through from the VerDay Paints.
This one shows all the stencils on the VerDay Cloth. This would make a great book cover.
I took this sample and actually made a book cover. I really love this stencil as it's so graphic and allows space for writing.
What a great way to get your creative juices flowing and jump start the gift giving season. Please join us on the blog hop, leave comments and you just may be lucky enough to win a set of paints and stencils.
