I love Ice Resin, in fact I wish I had invented it. I guess I'll have to settle for selling it. If you have ever used resins in your art you will definitely want to use this. This stuff is so wonderful it makes you weep.
Weep, because you no longer have to worry about crazy bubbles just appearing, it's easy, it's non-toxic, it's easy, it never yellows and it is jewelry grade resin. Did I say it was easy?
On today's TTV we show just how easy it is. This video is rather involved and I had to mess with Megan getting in my way but for the most part you will know everything I know about this stuff.
Now, your probably wondering what's so wonderful about it? Well, it can be applied to paper and it will turn translucent. Other resins can't do that. This sample shows a piece I did that was done on copy paper and you can see how "see throughie" it is. (Lolly is puking right now as she reads this because she's a linguist and knows the proper way to talk, spell and write and I've probably just slaughtered the English language.)
This is so easy to do and it will make you weep and pee your pants all at the same time.
Try using it on molds. This stuff will pop out of the pliable molds. The one on the left was just popped out and the one on the right has alcohol ink on the backside of it and then a little white acrylic paint rubbed on the front. When you hold it up to the light you can still see through it. So, making your own embellishments out of resin is super easy.
Make your own molds from Ranger's Mold and Pour and then pop them out after they've dried overnight. The fluer de lis has white acrylic paint on the back of it and then a little Stickles rubbed over the top. The crown is just clear resin.
These are some of the samples we did on the video and I wanted to show how crystal clear this stuff is when it is cured.
It will dry overnight and is cured in 3 days. But you can drill, sand, paint, rivet...well, the list is endless.
I like using it on various bezels that are see through. I think the wired piece really turned out great and is really unique for use with your art or just to wear.
I hope you get some creative ideas with this video. We have Ice Resin in our online store. It comes in two sizes: 4oz kit or 8oz refills.
This is the type of project that you want to plan out what you're going to make, get everything ready and then pour the resin all at one time. DO NOT USE OUR MOLDS AS A MOLD. THE RESIN WILL NOT POP OUT BUT WILL COAT THE TOP OF THE MOLD WITH RESIN! But, you could make a mold with Mold and Pour and then use the resin in that. I've been going nuts making molds and pouring all sorts of cool things in resin. And yes, you can use our metal in a base and pour over it. That's what I did in the first photo with the bracelet. The nice thing about this stuff is it doesn't tend you discolor most things like other resins do.
There was a class at Inspired and everyone went nuts with this stuff, so if you're interested in a cool unique product give this a try. Post a comment and on Friday I'll draw a winner for one of these pieces. I've got to finish them with more cool stuff, but I'll post a picture when I announce the winner.
great projects. Need to have ago at this because the effects are cool. Thanks for the tutorials they really help me to understand how to use some of your products.

What a great ideal and very foolproof. It seems very easy to correct any mistakes. Cheryl and Megan, you two are the greatest and love all the projects that you have shown.
I can't wait to try this.

I could get totally obsessed over Ice Resin. I seriously need to think about it before I buy some because it is just that amazing. Looks like you could make just about anything with it. I really like the jewelery and the paper :)

That product is amazing. I had a kit when I was a kid that used resins. I had molds and you had to mix up the stuff and then add a few drops of more liquid stuff to make it harden. It smelled plenty and I probably got brain damage from the fumes. Way cool stuff you have there!

Very cool and I would love to win one of your pieces. TFS...Viv

Whoa! This stuff looks so cool! Never have played with resins before..was afraid to, but you made it look doable, Cheryl! I want to try it now.
Ice, Ice baby...WOW, brings back memories of that original song by David Bowie of course!
That dude was cool like ice!

Megan, you are more than just a pretty face.. Loved the ending but most of all, I just put my order in for 8oz and mixing cups/sticks.

you gals are nuts, crazy and wacked and that is why I keep coming back week after week. I was surprised to see you're now doing 1/2 hour shows but it was way beyond what I would ever try. You need sponsorships and do these shows daily. The end was priceless, you looked like you were totally surprised. Keep it up, I'm off to order.

This stuff looks like so much fun. I would love to try it on paper and in molds -- particularly the alphabet one you had on the video.

Guess this will be another thing I'll just have to try. I've accumulated quite a bit of golf and beer money so it shouldn't be a problem.

I was in that inspired class and sent the perfect husband in to buy this perfect stuff from you. What I must say is that you have "inspired" (get it) me even more. Never even thought of mold and pour. Great ideas as always. You ladies are geniuses!

Perfect husband here. I just watched my first Taco Tuesday Video. I have heard them before and know when my wife is watching but today I watched. This stuff is sooooo cool. I can't wait to see what Laurie does with it.

How excited I am to know you carry this product that I have been gaining interest in trying. I really need to get serious and come up with projects, however, I still think the paper is my very favorite so far. The video was super informative, thanks for the amazing work you do! I think Miz Magen will think up with something really special to do sometime soon : )

I really love the fact that you guys bring in lots of other ideas and products to enhance your metals. It is truly MIND EXPANDING even if I didn't truly "get" the vision of those posy head flowers. Thanks for sharing.

Wow, this stuff looks amazing and wow, my mind just got EXPANDED! Haven't felt quite so enlightened since the end of the seventies!!! I really love it that you gals are constantly blowing away the boundaries! Thanks!

Haven't been able to get on the internet all week so I am gonna multi-comment today...
*Happy Birthday Megan!!
*I know where I am!! Graduation Open House preperation HELL!!!!! I should have started on the yard work years ago!!! Plus my teenage daughter (who isn't always so sweet to me) said the nicest thing to me this past weekend. We were at an open house for a fellow student and I said to her "this is nice but kinda plain, maybe I am overdoing it on your brothers decorations and such!?" She said "NO you aren't, plus people expect it from you because you are so creative!!" Very nice thing to say, made my day, BUT also added so much pressure!!!
*The Ice Resin is SOOOO very cool, can not wait to get some and try it out! Your stuff is so awsome and you guys inspire so many ideas. Wish I had some Ice Resin right this minute, but will have to wait until open house!

Great! just great!!! Liver of sulpher AND Ice Resin....I am really loving the retired life, but you may force me to have to get that job as a Walmart Greeter just to finance my "habit".....I know I'm going to love this stuff..I just know it!
Posted by: Ruth Ann Landry | May 26, 2010 at 06:36 AM
You know, everytime I think I need to learn something, all I have to do is come here! I have ICE Resin here. I bought it at the Bead & Button Show last June from Susan. LOVE her stuff! But have been apprehensive about using it. Because as you so eliquently state, you need to have your project planned. Can't premix it. You HAVE to use it NOW. I'm not normally a twit about these things, but this ones got me hung. So, point is, if YOU can do it, so can I! Thanks for the kick in the arsch!
Posted by: Jan Hoefler | May 26, 2010 at 11:29 AM
ooooooo! You could color this stuff gold and put in dead insects and make your own amber. Nifty neato! Then evolutionary biologists will want to drill into your art and extract DNA and recreate Jurassic Park. Just think of what you can start. When adding the resin to the cups I would guess you would want to read the level from the bottom of the meniscus (the little dip the liquid makes as the stuff clings to the sides of the cup), RIGHT?? And somebody said you should do half hour shows and get a sponsor. Is HGTV or DIY reading? They should be. TV has really gone into a slump since the exit of Carol Duvall. The Cheryl and Megan Show would be awesome!
Posted by: NWFlamingo | May 26, 2010 at 01:15 PM
Me too! Me too! I would watch the Cheryl and Megan show daily. I have a hard time waiting for the weekly shows. Why doesn't the Craft Channel exist?
I was cracking up when Megan *fixed* Cheryl's piece. My kid does this to me too. Of course, she's only four. The other day I was teaching her to use Mold and Pour and I had just finished mixing some up to make a mold, when she grabbed it and started molding coins. And she loves to add paint to my projects to make them *better*.
True story: My daughter watched the flower video with me and then we popped over and watched the paper version. I mentioned to her that we could use the same method to make fabric flowers. And she said, "Screw fabric. Metal!" My kid loves metal. I'm almost out of sheets because of her projects. I cannot even pawn off cheap metal (from disposable pans) on her anymore.
I have two questions. Can I just drop the resin on a craft sheet to make drops or squiggles? Have you tried this? I currently make "Rain Dots" out of Glossy Accents this way. Also I make "Dew Drops" using hot glue and Glossy Accents. Watching the video, I wondered what would happen if I tried it with resin. *Sigh* I suppose I am just going to have to try it.
2nd Q: Where did you get the alphabet mold? I have been looking for one like that for ages. I haven't been able to find one.
Last year I bought Sherri Haab's book about resin jewelry but haven't had the courage to try resin yet. Thank you so much for an up close look and the inspiration.

Thanks for another great video. Can't wait to try this out with some of my clay molds. This stuff is way to cool. You two are a hoot to watch, I love the videos, keep them coming!!!!

I am so excited you will be carrying this. I have been wanting to try it since Paperclipping(dot)com did a video at CHA
Posted by: geezee | May 27, 2010 at 06:38 AM
Resin is completely new to me -- all I can say is WOW - the possibilities. Thanks for sharing.
Posted by: Sue C | May 27, 2010 at 07:29 AM
In answer to Peace's questions above:
Yes, you can just drop the resin on a craft sheet and make shapes. When I first tried this I got out all sorts of molds that I had made and filled them with resin. The trick is that you have to have a flat bottom mold and mine were not flat. So some of the resin spilled out and made little gobs and goops. They were just as cool as the molded resin!
Second question, where did we get the alphabet mold? I got that years ago from one of the craft stores. People, you need to go up and down every single isle of your local craft store, it's amazing what you will find in an isle you wouldn't think of going down.
Posted by: Cheryl Darrow, master artist | May 27, 2010 at 07:39 AM
Where do you come up with all these ideas? Make them look super easy? Use stuff we have around our house or tell us where to get it, and then make it entertaining as well? I know it's not scripted because I've been in one of your classes and you just say it like it is and act "normal". You're not wacked out on your celebrity and snotty.
Yes, I've heard your thoughts on percentages of people who "get" you, and I have to say Cheryl, "The ones who count get you just fine". Keep it up cuz there's more than just 16 viewers.

I don't usually comment, but I had to today. I am just getting into jewelry and this looks so great. I just loved the open piece with the wire. I used Diamond Glaze before, but this looks so much neater. I think I might be your 17th viewer.

I love resin! Great demo and ideas. I can't wait to try using the molds...haven't done that before. Megan's wire wrapped frame turned out really cool.
