Canvas to the Max by Marleen

Today is our last day for our designer Marleen van Meerendonk for the month of May. Marleen had 5 weeks of projects and was so excited to do an extra week, and I think she did an excellent job doing slide videos.

 I hope all of you have gotten a lot of great ideas this month and I want to thank again Vickie and Marleen for going above and beyond. Next month we go to the other side of the world with Louise Williams in New Zealand.

We are getting ready for our annual trek to Great American Scrapbook Show in Arlington which starts this Thur-Saturday.  With Memorial Day falling this week and this show starting this week, I don't know if I'm coming or going....something had to give and it was this week's video and blog posting. Sorry for the missed video but I'm sure everyone can watch one of the other 200 videos we've done in the past.

More Flowers from The Netherlands

This week Marleen shows her take on make some fab flowers with our VerDay paints. I hope everyone is enjoying these tutorials as much as we are. We love seeing what the girls and our customers come up with each week.

 

Number ART

On today's video, Megan comes up with a great idea for altering your house numbers. We want you to go outside, rip off those dowdy numbers on your house and put them onto a plaque or buy new ones like we did. If this doesn't get your creative juices flowing, I don't know what will.

"number art".  Today is also my little baby's birthday. I've decided to take the day off and celebrate the fact that I gave birth to a beautiful smart girl. I don't know where I would be right now without my daughter as she is the one who tells me what to do, when to do it and how to do it almost every day.

One Page Book

This week's video we show you how easy it is to create a really cool book shape with one piece of decorated paper. In last week's video we showed how to decorate brown paper with our VerDay paints. This is just the plain brown paper roll you can get at Lowe's in the paint dept. There are two types and I get the heavier one. Hurry in and get yours before some diva put's their name on it and it's three times the cost ;)

I've used my stamps and our rub-on's for the cover. After I folded I took strips of canvas and sewed it down to the paper.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Here you can see the book opened and the strips of fabric.

 

This takes a plain jane piece of paper to another level and is so easy to make.

 

I added some more rub-on's to the inside and can now decorate this book as I go or have it as my very own homemade journal.

The flap in the front and back are perfect for holding ephemera or tags.

Cards by Marleen

This week Marleen van Merendonk shows everyone how to create a really cool card using all sorts of cool goodies including our VerDay Paints and Patina.

Who wouldn't want to receive a card this beautiful?

It's too late for Mother's Day but Father's Day in just next month and these techniques would work just as nicely using Iron VerDay Paint and Patina for a more masculine look. Or do a combination of both (my personal favorite).

 

 

Check out how Marleen does these techniques and let us know how you like them. We hope you agree that working with these paints is so easy and the results are spectacular.

 

Techniques Galore

What can I say...I watched Marleen's tutorial and was amazed at what she created using metal, paint, wood and flowers. She takes a storage unit for ink pads and transposes it into the coolest storage unit for any studio. These techniques will work on any type of wood surface and don't forget to get out banged up cigar boxes, or any other type of box you may have and breathe new life into it with paint and metal. I love the look of our molds embossed on metal and the use of our alphabet stamps with the VerDay Paints.

 Can't wait to hear what you think of these great techniques from Marleen and I hope this gives you the inspiration to create.

 

Backgrounds the VerDay Way

On today's video we show you how easy it is to transform a plain jane roll of paper (I got mine at Lowe's...my happy place) into a fabulous decorated background.

 Next week we will show how to take this paper and turn it into a book. Let us know what you think of this technique and we want to see your experiments on paper. Don't stop at brown paper, this would also look beautiful on gift bags, handmade papers and those butt ugly 12x12 papers you have from 10 years ago! I give you permission to PLAY!

Bottles to the Max

Starring in the month of May, from our design team, is Marleen van Meerendonk. I met Marleen last year when I went to the cool little town of Ede in the Netherlands, at the coolest shop owned by Lia Sauer...De Craftorij. Marleen is a very talented mixed media artist and I was so glad she applied for our design team.

Today I’m showing a possibility to paint the VerDay-paints on glass.

The photo-video shows you how simple it works to alter a bottle. I hope it inspires you for using the Verday-paints on glass. In the video is also a technique to make a heart of copper metal.

Stamping on Copper

On this week's video we show stamping onto pure copper using one of our alphabet stamps.

This technique is so easy and works well with stamps that are more of an open design rather than something with a lot of detail. We designed our stamps for doing large work and these are perfect for card making or home decor.

I mounted this onto a piece of stampboard that I had painted with our paints in Iron and a touch of Copper VerDay Paint. Because it was sponged on, it gave it a textured look.

 

Megan did this on a piece of copper and then mounted it on top of a piece of scrap metal and then framed it.

These ideas are great for almost any occasion from birthday's to anniversary's.
