When I found out I had breast cancer I created my boobalicious art from wire, plaster and lots of collaged junk. My husband thought I went over the top with the flowers but they were the "cherry on the sundae"!
We just got back from BeadFest in Valley Forge, PA. It was a beautiful weekend and was great fun meeting up with friends and meeting new friends. We got to exhibit at the BeadFest Show and had a table, this summer we're going back and will have a booth. I have alot of passions and one is beads, wire, chain and jewelry. Can't wait to get my goodies out and play with them.
(I just spent 30 minutes trying to upload pics and for some reason I can't get any pics to load onto this post. I am going to scream!)
I want to thank everyone who sent well wishes for my Dad who is in rehab. He is doing ok, but won't eat or listen to anyone and just wants to escape from the place. I am hoping my mom and I can make it through this period and not totally loose what little sanity we both have left. This period of life seriously sucks.
Wow it started yesterday and we got everything worked out...we hope and people are now watching the videos. Doing an online class is much different that posting videos every week and it's been quite the learning curve but Megan did it.
We have fun doing these videos and sometimes we just get loopy after awhile. Megan think I should say everything at the beginning and I like to say things as I do them.
Of course with me, sometimes you have to read my mind as to what I mean, so I guess it's good that Megan is there to "clarify" as she does.
I've already got the outline for the next set of classes after this one is done. But, you can still sign up for this set of classes if you like, there is no time frame for watching them as you could sit down and watch several weeks at the same time after they've been posted. Each week new techniques will be posted over six weeks. That means this workshop will run through April 22. We will post new online workshops next month for May 1st. If you would like to sign up for the current workshop it's not to late. If you've got questions about the online workshops just email us. If you don't want to do the class in the comfort of your own home, come on down and join us this Saturday in our studio from 10-4, we promise you'll have a blast.
Yesterday we showed this piece of copper metal with just the VerDay Patina.
After I did it I got to thinking it needed a little more color, so I took two dots of the Iron VerDay paint and spread it around on the copper, wiped up some with a paper towel and then sprayed the VerDay Patina on top. Let dry overnight and then sand.
Voila....it rusted out the copper in certain spots. Love this look and how it gave it the rusty~crusty~verday look I wanted.
*Thanks to Peggy for letting me know that I spelled Isaiah wrong. I need to have someone walk around with me telling me what I do wrong!
One of my favorite hobbies is calligraphy and when I get a chance to use it on metal, well, it makes me happy. And, if you know me, I'm all about happy.
On this week's video we show how I write this piece on copper and after it's embossed and refined, I applied our VerDay Patina and waited for the patina to turn that beautiful green that copper creates.
In the past 6 years we have done over 300 videos. That is a "Kickass" amount of videos of ideas and techniques. For those of you who are new to our company you may want to check out all the different videos that are on our website. Lately we have been putting videos on our youtube channel and we hope you check those out. The reason I mention our videos is because this video will be our last regular video that we do on our blog.
We have had so many requests for online classes and since all of you don't live in our neighborhood, we are putting our free time into creating classes for the masses. We already have our VerDay All Day Workshop which starts next Monday (March 18th). If you haven't already signed up, it's not too late and you can sign up here. You will have access to this video until the end of time and beyond. There is also a video when you go to that link and we talk about what you get in the class.
We will still be posting weekly on our blog about what's happening and what we are working on and we hope you will follow us in our adventures. Some of these postings will include videos but not on a weekly basis.
We've got two more online classes planned that I think will inspire everyone and those will be listed by the end of the month for signup's. We also will be in Philadelphia for Bead Fest next month and will be posting more on that later this month.
Hope everyone is having a fabulous Valentine's Day...if you don't have a favorite person in your life you can always love yourself. I know I'm number one in my life!
On March 2nd, we are offering a Metal 101 class in our studio. We will be teaching tips and techniques on metal. Students will make a sampler piece using Ten Seconds Studio's tools and molds.
Students will get several pieces of metal to work with in various colors and a sample piece of our new Pewter. Yes, you heard that right, you wanted Pewter and we will be carrying it for all you die hard metalists.
This is a fun class to get your feet wet with metal embossing and a great way to screw up and learn how to fix your mistakes.
We will cover the A-Z of Metal Embossing and have a fun time creating with metal.
When I was a little girl, I collected all sorts of dolls. I loved dolls, I would create all sorts of little homes for them, stored them in boxes and had a really extensive collection. Then my brother came along. He didn't love dolls because he would rip the heads off all my dolls.
All my dolls had bodies and no heads. What's really weird is that I just remembered this and have finally figured out why I turned out the way I did....I have been looking for my heads all these years.
On today's video we show you how to decorate our new dolls. We brought out these dolls a couple of years ago and decided to bring them back and paint their cute bodies.
You can paint them
or use the template and cut them from fabric and sew them. The sample here is sewn and other "mixed media" embellishments are sewn on. I use to make doll clothes for all my little dolls. Of course they were kinda pathetic since they didn't have heads but cute clothes.
As I type this so many memories are flooding my poor head and I realize my mom didn't care of my dolls were headless. I wonder if that is why we "butt" heads so much now?
About 20 years ago I started another collection (I have about 10 different collections of crap), and it turned out to be heads. For some reason heads just spoke to me. What speaks to you?
